Again, I Am SO Tired

_____

My new word for the day is heuristic.

heuristics refers to experience-based techniques for problem solving, learning, and discovery. Heuristic methods are used to speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution, where an exhaustive search is impractical. Examples of this method include using a "rule of thumb", an educated guess, an intuitive judgment, or common sense.

Went out for my daily two mile health and fitness walk today... but I waited till almost noon to go when the temperature got up to nearly 70 degrees... perfect walking weather.

Well... gotta go. My NaNoWriMo pages are waiting for me.

Hot Summer Day

_____

_____

Having finished the Steig Larsson trilogy, I decided to re-read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I had read the book several years ago but when I opened it and began reading last night I found that I had no memory at all of the characters or the story. So it appears that I will be immersed in it each night before going to sleep, immersed in it for quite some time.

It's a BIG book.

This morning I got a late start on my morning fitness walk to Fry's Supermarket and back; it was terribly hot outside and when I got home at 9:30 my shirt was drenched with sweat. The AC inside my apartment felt (and still feels) great. When the monsoon season ends and it cools down out there, I'll extend the distance of my walk from the current two miles to my former four miles.

I bought some fresh oranges and white seedless grapes, each on sale for 88 cents a pound and two boxes of Frosted Mini-Wheats, which I enjoy eating dry (no milk) as a between-meal snack. I have to be careful to keep from overeating. Since I moved from Mike's house out in the desert and into this apartment in Tucson at the end of March, I have gained ten pounds. Instead of my long-time 160 pounds, I now weigh 170. When I have lost those extra pounds, which are all located in my lower belly region, I will announce it here... soon, I hope.

More news later... maybe.

Sights Along The Way

As I left the house yesterday to begin my daily fitness walk, I spied a skittish jackrabbit under the tree in the center of the front lawn, and I deduced that it is probably the critter responsible for eating JoAnn's carefully tended non-desert plant near the front entrance.

Pesky vegetarian

The following are photos of a few of the familiar things I see each day on my 3.4 mile walk.

The view walking South on Conestoga Avenue
The Rincon Mountains

And then, on the way back . . .

The view walking North on Conestoga Avenue
The Santa Catalina Mountains

The next few photos are some of the street signs that I see along the way.

and . . .

As I neared the halfway mark on Tanque Verde, I saw another Roadrunner but once again it was too far away for a picture and it was long gone as soon as I approached it. This occurred about a city-block's length before I reached the Circle K convenience store where I occasionally buy junk food and sometimes a chance to win the weekly Powerball drawing.

I don't know the current price of vehicle fuel in your neighborhood, but...

This was the Tucson, AZ gas price on June 7, 2010
Nearly $2.63 per gallon

The outdoor temperature when I returned from my walk, at 12:30 P.M. was 98 degrees F. which is 36.67 C. (I think) -- Later in the day it went above 100 degrees F.

Comfy . . .

Oh yes. By the way... I had three winning numbers on the Powerball ticket that I bought at that Circle K store last week.

I Won $7.

Wow!
