Bark Avenue Dog Wash is the name of a new business soon to open in Tucson. Every day on my walk I pass by the building where the business will be located, right at the Pantano entrance to Fry's Market. A couple days ago I saw the new sign above its door, amidst  all the concrete entrance construction debris, and that is what prompted me to do research on the business via the Internet.

I discovered that Bark Avenue Dog Wash has a Facebook page, and if you are interested you can learn more about it by clicking the following link.

I was unsure of the correct definition of the word tertiary when I heard it used by Dr. Sheldon Cooper on the TV comedy, Big Bang Theory --  Sheldon referred to himself as being the tertiary friend of Howard Wolowitz.

L to R     Howard   Leonard    Penny    Sheldon    Raj

See below at WORD FOR TODAY for the definition of tertiary.

A short piece in The Writer's Almanac tells in a single paragraph consisting of 216 words the complete story of the invention and marketing of Sliced Bread. It's an interesting piece of history and will only take you a minute or so to read. Give it a try.

HISTORICAL EVENT

On this day, July 8 in 1951, Paris, the capital city of France, celebrated turning 2,000 years old. In fact, a few more candles would've technically been required on the birthday cake, as the City of Lights was most likely founded around 250 B.C. Today, Paris is home to some 2 million residents, with an additional 10 million people living in the surrounding metropolitan area.

WORD FOR TODAY

tertiary [TUHR-she-ehr-ee]
adjective
Coming next after the second and just before the fourth in position.

From vocabulary dot com - Tertiary is another way of saying "third in importance," like socializing with co-workers being a tertiary reason for getting an after-school job -- less important than, first, earning money and second, gaining skills.

If you are the third child born in your family, don't be tempted to call yourself the "tertiary child." This means you are less important that your two older siblings. However, in some cases, tertiary does not have to do with ranking third -- the Tertiary period marks the beginning of life for mammals, and in the United Kingdom, tertiary education means "college-level."
