WHAT IS 21st CENTURY EDUCATION?

_________________

I wanted to write about indoctrination and how it has taken over the original meaning of education -- but when I attempted to do so, I soon discovered that my thoughts on the subject are sketchy and result in beliefs that are not at all conclusive, let alone factual.

So, as usual, I am putting it off until another time.

if a reader of this blog would like to tackle the subject, let me know and I will be glad to provide blog space, or if you already have your own blog and decide to write about it, please point me to it.

Thanks.

WORD FOR TODAY

indoctrinate
verb
- To instruct in a body of doctrine or principles.
- To imbue with a partisan or ideological point of view.
- Brainwash

Wikipedia reveals:
Mind control (also known as brainwashing, coercive persuasion, mind abuse, menticide, thought control, or thought reform) refers to a process in which a group or individual "systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated". The term has been applied to any tactic, psychological or otherwise, which can be seen as subverting an individual's sense of control over their own thinking, behavior, emotions or decision making.

Theories of brainwashing and of mind control were originally developed to explain how totalitarian regimes appeared to succeed systematically in indoctrinating prisoners of war through propaganda and torture techniques. These theories were later expanded and modified by psychologists including Margaret Singer, to explain a wider range of phenomena, especially conversions to new religious movements (NRMs). A third-generation theory proposed by Ben Zablocki focused on the utilization of mind control to retain members of NRMs and cults.

Indoctrinate = brainwash = educate

Johnnie Ray was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Extremely popular for most of the 1950s, Ray has been cited by critics as a major precursor of what would become rock and roll, for his jazz and blues-influenced music and his animated stage personality.

The publication, British Hit Singles & Albums, noted that Ray was "a sensation in the 1950s, the heart-wrenching vocal delivery of the 'Cry Guy' ... influenced many acts including Elvis and was the prime target for teen hysteria in the pre-Presley days".
