Well, it's not raining this morning but neither is it brightly shining outside. Eva can gallop around and around the pool with her smiling, carefree abandon in her usual habitual lap after lap. She will eat her morning meal in a few minutes and then out we'll go. She is standing beside the computer at this moment, looking up at me, her tail wagging furiously. She is wordlessly reminding me that it is time for breakfast.


Sometimes during my random reading at Internet sites I happen upon an article that intrigues me. One such piece is briefly described and linked to below:

HISTORICAL EVENT

On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress formally declared the name of the new nation to be the "United States" of America. This replaced the term "United Colonies," which had been in general use. In the Congressional declaration the delegates wrote, "That in all continental commissions, and other instruments, where, heretofore, the words 'United Colonies' have been used, the stile be altered for the future to the "United States." Congress had created a country from a cluster of colonies and the nation's new name reflected that reality.
